Information we collect

TeX64 is a local-first desktop app for macOS and Windows. Project files, PDFs, and editor contents stay on your device by default. Math OCR processes the screen region or image you select locally on your device using bundled ONNX/Tesseract components; the capture is not sent to OpenAI. To provide accounts, Axiom AI, billing, and support, we process account identifiers (such as Google account email and display name, Fermion user ID, and device ID), OAuth/session tokens, subscription and billing identifiers (such as Stripe customer/subscription IDs, plan, and status), usage counters, feedback you submit (message and optional reply email), and diagnostics described below. Stripe handles payment-card details; we do not store full card numbers.

How we use information

We use this information to authenticate you, provide and secure the service, manage subscriptions and entitlements, enforce rate limits and quotas, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and improve reliability. Feedback is sent only when you submit it, and desktop diagnostics are sent only when you attach or submit them. On tex64.com, unhandled client errors are reported automatically and may include the error message, stack trace, page URL or source location, browser user agent, app version, IP address, and signed-in account identifiers. If you approve managed TeX Live setup, TeX64 downloads TeX packages from a TeX Live mirror and installs them in an app-managed folder on your device; this setup does not upload your projects.

Service providers / sharing

We use third-party service providers to operate the service, including Stripe for payments and billing, Google for authentication (OAuth), the configured AI service (currently OpenAI API) for Axiom AI processing, hosting/infrastructure and configured diagnostic or support providers, and TeX Live mirrors for optional managed TeX downloads. Math OCR is processed locally and is not sent to OpenAI. These providers receive only the information needed for the relevant function and handle it under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights and users.

AI processing

When you invoke Axiom, the prompt and context needed for that request — which may include selected text or relevant project content — are sent to the configured AI service (currently OpenAI API) to generate a response. Math OCR is processed locally on your device using bundled ONNX/Tesseract components; selected screen or image captures are not sent to OpenAI. Review what you submit to Axiom and do not send confidential, personal, or sensitive information unless you have the right to do so and accept the provider's processing.

Retention

We retain service data only as long as necessary to operate the service and comply with legal obligations. You may request access, correction, or deletion of your information, subject to applicable law and operational constraints.

Security

We use practical security measures such as HTTPS transport encryption, access controls, and server-side entitlement checks. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Cookies / local storage

tex64.com uses cookies and/or local storage for login sessions, security controls, and preferences (such as language and theme). On Windows, access and refresh token values in tex64-platform-session.json are Electron safeStorage ciphertext protected by Windows DPAPI. Legacy plaintext token values are migrated when read; if encryption or migration cannot complete, TeX64 fails closed by signing out instead of continuing with plaintext credentials. The JSON may still contain non-token session or account-profile metadata. On non-Windows desktop builds, the session file is restricted to the current operating-system account; we do not claim equivalent DPAPI encryption there. We do not use advertising trackers.
